3 Ways I Make My Mornings Better!

I will admit it honestly and openly; I am not a morning person. I don’t like getting up and out of bed, and sometimes when I have to get up and going super fast, it usually makes me feel sick. Most of the time I take the night owl approach and get everything I need to get done after lunch time. Scandalous, I know, the beauty of working at home / being on gap year. However, there are some things that I do every single time on those mornings when I just have to get stuff done!

  • Get your skincare and prep done! And don’t skip it!
    1. This one seems obvious, but go through your skincare routine. I know it’s super tempting to just roll out of bed, splash some water on your face, and head out the door, but don’t!
    2. Cleanse your skin, and moisturize at least. It will give you a second to think, breathe, and clear out any negative energy you may have going on. I also like to apply a scented body cream in the morning to moisturize my skin, and then my fragrance.
    3. Obviously, I’m a night showerer, so this really simplifies my schedule, but if you need to shower in the morning don’t put it off until the last second. Do it right after you eat breakfast or get your coffee going and get it done! This will give you time simply do what you have to to get out of the door on time.
  • Speaking of food, eat something!
    1. I know it can be hard to eat in the morning. Western and European bellies normally eat large meals later in the day that can sustain us to midmorning. However, this leads to a drop in blood sugar, and can lead us to becoming overly hungry and then overeating.
    2. I would suggest finding something that doesn’t upset your stomach and sticking to it. Whether that’s eggs and spinach, a green smoothie, or even my Banana Chocolate Smoothie that tastes just like a Wendy’s frosty. (Which I most definitely have eaten for breakfast, sorry not sorry, who wouldn’t love a healthy dessert for breakfast?). Find something yummy that you like that can nourish your body and maintain your blood sugar to prevent hunger spikes!
      1. Note that I included two liquid options here. Often Western people do the best with liquid breakfast foods. It makes for easy consumption, preparation, and absorption of nutrients. I don’t personally support juicing, but a good high speed blender can make a world of difference in your diet. Get your fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, etc. in there and make yourself a nutritious drink that will get you to lunch the healthy way. Get those calories! They’re what keep you going.
  • Take a breath!
    1. You know, morning can be the most stressful time of the day. Take some time as you’re going through your routine to take a breath, or even integrate some meditation into your routine.
      1. Each morning when I sit down to do my makeup or skincare I turn on some meditative music and just pause every so often to breath, like when I’m waiting for my eyeliner or mascara to dry.
      2. On days when I don’t have to go out right away, when I wake up I’ll ease myself into the day with meditation. I made a vlog on meditation around a year ago, and it really has transformed me, and helped with my anxiety tremendously. In the description of that video, I gave some examples of music I love for meditation, but I will include them under the “Continue Reading” break as well.

As you probably can tell, I have my mornings about sussed. I don’t think I will ever magically love getting up at the break of dawn. But, I have found my own ways to deal with feeling stress, anxiety and negativity in the whirlwind that can be the mornings.

5 Ingredient Vegan Chocolate Frosty Dupe (Banana Ice Cream)

I’ve been trying to get back into my vegetarian groove, and completely cut out animal products. But the hardest thing for me is dairy, and I constantly am craving things like ice cream.

I’ve heard about this frozen banana ice cream for years, but I have never ever tried it. Until today! I decided to try it out, and form my favey fave version of the basic recipe. I consider this a chocolate frosty dupe! Feel free to leave out the peanut / almond butter if you don’t like it, and it is an exact dupe!

  • 2 Frozen Bananas, cut into 1/2 inch pieces before freezing for ease of blending
  • 3/4 cup Almond Milk
  • 2 Tbsp Peanut / Almond / Sunflower Butter (I use almond butter because yum, but use your preference 😃)
  • 1 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
  • 2 tsp Vanilla (Do NOT Skip Vanilla! It makes a world of difference for the flavor of the ice cream, especially if you are using unsweetened almond milk.)

I start out by putting my bananas and almond milk into my blender cup, and then blend it up to create a thick gloopy ice cream! You can totally just add in the vanilla at this step and have a pure plain ice cream, but who would want that lol, so boring! pfft. I used 1/2 cup of my almond milk for the first blend with the bananas, reserving around 1/4 cup.

Then, I plopped in the almond butter on top, then the vanilla, and cocoa powder on top. Finally, I just poured the last of my almond milk on top for easy blending.

Sorry for the bad cell phone photo quality, I didn’t plan on making this post, but it tasted so good I had to!

I think I really am beginning to prefer non dairy options because they don’t form a phlegmy residue in my throat. It’s really refreshing, and I’ve gotten back into cereal and oatmeal because of the existence of almond milk. I can eat my beloved Raisin Bran again! Yay!

It makes me happy that this is a new vegan option to add to my repetoire and it’s such a good easy, simple recipe that almost anyone could make! Good for summer breakfast or even a dessert. Now that I think about it, it could be a nice before bed snack to keep your blood sugar up while you sleep, and there is no residue to keep you awake coughing at night. So, all around, I really loved this recipe, if you couldn’t guess from the above! ☺️

Bath & Body Works // Summer 2016 SAS Semi Annual Sale Haul

Woo! Who doesn’t love the Semi Annual Sale? I don’t know why they don’t just call it the biannual sale, as it’s always twice a year, but here I am anyways, buying a ton of stuff for the hell of it. Why not? It’s all at such a good price, and who doesn’t love smelling good?

Unfortunately, my mall is in the middle of a clusterfluff of road construction for the summer, and no one in my family is willing to brave that (including me) to go to Bath & Body Works. Which is fine with me, God bless online shopping.

I felt fine ordering online because I really was only interested in their #FlashbackFragrances, which were reliably all on sale and available online (and I think still are, until at least the beginning of July). I am sad I won’t be able to get into the trenches in store and rifle through those 75% off sale and discontinued bins, but I will live, especially because I’ve got all of these new goodies to play with!

I got all body products this order because I haven’t gotten new body stuff is a year and a half, not this previous Winter SAS but the one before (Year of Christmas 2014? sure.). We’ll start with the exciting stuff and work to the less exciting stuff, lol. Not a good way to have an audience reading to the end of a post but that is how we’re doing it!

First off, I got some body mists, or Fine Fragrance Mists as B&BW describes them. I can’t say that without thinking “Fiiiiine” like how you would describe a lover or someone you think is hot hahah. Not necessarily my opinions on a body spray. These are going for $3.75 a piece, and I got them down to $3.07 with a $10 off of $40 coupon. Score!

I got Country Apple, a Sun Ripened Raspberry, a Cucumber Melon, and a Cotton Blossom.

Cotton Blossom is actually a really nice cotton scent, and it smells similar to if you had clothes hanging out on the line. Awesome scent, I think I’ll love it a lot for days when I don’t wanna go hard on the fruity [which is rare, but it does happen 😉 ]

Onto shower gels! I’ve been meaning to get more into smelly shower products to get myself into a proper shower routine. Cue, smelly shower gel! Yes!

Country Apple, Cucumber Melon, and Sun Ripened Raspberry, of course. I always reliably like fruity notes in my bath products, and these are no exception. Yum yum yum.

Country Apple is a bit of an artificial apple scent, but it does smell good. It’s just clean and fresh enough not to be overpowering on the apple. Very good!

Cucumber Melon is such a classic. I personally smell a lot of cantaloupe in the scent with a background of cucumber and a sweetness that seems like it is based in a honeydew type, and that’s how it turns out on my skin. It’s just lovely.

As far as my opinions on Sun Ripened Raspberry, it is a true sweet raspberry scent. When I used this on my skin, it adopted a sort of warmth to it that was yummy for a raspberry scent.

Next will seem like a more odd item, but I had to get some Triple Moisture Body Creams. I love love love the TMBC formulation, and they have done away with it! They’ve replaced it with their new Ultra Shea Body Cream formulation, and I find the Ultra Shea way too greasy! Sad face. So I decided to just pick a few up and use them sparingly. It is my favourite, so I’ll have to just deal. These are currently selling for $3.25 a piece, and I got it down to $2.45 each! Awesome! Next time I get into a Bath & Body Works, I’m going to pick up more while I still can!

I got Dancing Waters and Rainforest Leaves, particularly because I have tried and loved Dancing Waters and that they’re both neutral enough scents that won’t conflict with other skincare I have. And they won’t make me nauseated when I don’t want to smell like a tropical fruit salad. Dancing Waters is a slightly musky yet fresh water scent that I’ve always loved, and I’m so happy to have such a large amount of it, unadulterated! Rainforest Leaves is still a clean rain scent, but there is a green undertone that is so nice. Both scents are right up my alley.

And last, and certainly not least, Pocketbacs. I go through phases with Pocketbacs, and when B&BW changed their Pocketbac design and packaging I got frustrated and refused to buy anymore until I ran out. Well, a year a half later, I’m officially bored of all of my scents in the old triangle-esque packaging. It was time. My picks out of this bunch are Black Cherry Merlot, Watermelon Lemonade, and Nectarine Sun Tea, but I definitely don’t hate Golden Pineapple Luau or Strawberry Vanilla Sugar. The first three are definitely stand out scents though.

Black Cherry Merlot was a scent that everyone freaked out over, particularly in hand soap form, during the fall time. I like it as a depthful perfumey fruit scent, it really is good!

Watermelon Lemonade, this scent was and still is incredibly HYPED in candle form. I love lemon scents, and this one doesn’t disappoint. Truth be told, I was kind of still sick when I got this box of B&BW stuff in, but this was strong and amazing as ever. The watermelon is pure and sweet.

Nectarine Sun Tea, Suuuuuun tea, my love. This scent is quite the balance between the peachy nectarine and a light tea fragrance. It isn’t the best of the best, the nectarine definitely overpowers the tea, but it is still nice.

I did the 5 for $6 deal (and by the way, what happened to the 5 for $5? gosh). Actually, I take that back, because with my coupon code I ended up paying 98 cents a piece. Great! I also picked up a new carrier, as my old one won’t work with the new design. Also the turtle is gorgeous and it matches my bag so why not. That was a very white girl thing to say, but it’s chill, that’s me.

So cute! Look at his little face! I’ve decided to name him Mac, after Niccolo Machiavelli.

So that was everything I got for myself for the Semi Annual Sale this year! I love everything I picked up and can’t wait to start using everything. Mac with Nectarine Sun Tea is going on my bag right now! 😘❤️

Being Sick is like Being Dead (but worse).

As I sit here, at the start of the summer before my gap year, I spend a lot of my time researching my future, watching through The Walking Dead with la madre (which is an accomplishment that I’m definitely going to write a post on), and just faffing around with my family and friends. And it’s mostly been chill. I literally just got my diploma and final transcript from school in the mail.

And I got sick. I didn’t even feel it coming on. Yesterday, I woke up dead.

I’m a firm believer in the idea that we take advantage of the times that we’re not sick. When our throats aren’t scratchy, our sinuses aren’t swelled, and we aren’t coughing our brains out. I was lucky in the fact that I’m at home, but being sick when in a brick and mortar environment is terrible. Worst of the worst.

When I was in a physical school, I very rarely could afford to take off days when I was sick. I only got ten days off of school a year, as if! Normally, when I would get sick, it would last for weeks.

The reason for that is kinda funny, but basically, anemia → low immune system → get sick super easily. Paired with the fact that I was really unhappy in school, it just made everything worse! By the time I got into an online environment for my junior and senior year, everything just kinda sorted itself out. I got sick one time in the past two years after leaving the brick and mortar school. However, now that I’ve officially graduated, it’s nothing but ironic that I get sick less than a week after finishing high school, huh?

Maybe I’m just kidding myself into finding extra meaning in something that isn’t there. All I know is I’m hydrated up to my gills, my blood is basically Raspberry Emergen-C and Halls Cough Drops, and I still feel like I’m dying. I spent most of the morning removing mucus from my various face orifices through violent means. So, while I do not love being sick, I would highly recommend being sick if you’re in the mood for a simulation of what death is like.

I’m off to drink some water, take some acetaminophen, and have a nap. If you’re not sick right now, please take a deep breath in through your nose and notice yourself swallowing without shooting pains. For me. And if coincidentally, you are sick too, brother in arms, nothing but strength to you in your quest for health.

Rimmel London // ScandalEyes Kohl Kajal Waterproof Eyeliners Review

** While writing this blog post I’m watching The Walking Dead. The Season 5 midseason finale. Just so you know I’ll really be testing this out because I’ll be bawling my eyes out at ****’s death. Lovely.

Hi! Welcome back! Today I’m going to be reviewing one of my favourite eyeliners of all time. Oh wait… I ruined the surprise. Well, I might as well tell you why I love them so much.

Full Length View
Sorry if mine look a bit trampy in photos, believe it or not I do use them often! ^_^

These liners will run ya under $5, specifically $4.49 at Ulta Beauty. The packaging is simple, and they are not retractable (ie they need to be sharpened). In my opinion, these are the best of the best for pencil eyeliners.

In fact, these eyeliners are what got me into a more natural look and using nude on the waterline. I have very large round protruding eyes, which I actually love, but in terms of cosmetics, they look best with a defining color in the waterline. That’s what I love the black for, as the coloring is a rich pigmented black.

*** Okay… She’s passed. The way Rick shakes his head as he walks out, and then Daryl walks behind him with her in his arms 😭😭😭. Maggie’s face kills me every single time. They really don’t ever give any conclusion at mid Season, huh?

I have extremely fair skin, so I was concerned when I got the nude color if it even was going to be too dark on me. However, I find that because I use a black mascara on both my top and bottom lashes, it actually shows in a pretty way and makes a nice contrast.

I think this photo really shows the true opacity, look where it covers my vein. Awesome for red early morning eyes!

In terms of application, the kajal texture really shines here. The creamy one swipe opacity is amazing, and really has spoiled me for any other pencil. Along the same vein, the waterproof claim is true. And I find the formula across the different shades very similar. It endures tears without running, as well as holding up on a normal day (aka days when you don’t watch TWD) for at least eight hours. I tend not to wear my makeup on a longer than that. But! Based on the intensity I have after 8 hours though (minimal wear on the inner corners), I think it could last a lot longer than that.

Left Black swatch is one pass over, the right is built up. Not much difference, eh?

**** They really know how to just kill ’em and leave the audience dying for more. The upsides of binge watching shows, I suppose. Morgan’s scene here is also really great. Sigh. Onto Episode 9. Really nice midseason finale though!

All in all, these are my true go-to pencil and general eyeliners. The wear time is nice is you’ll be wearing it for an extended amount of time. They are always reliable, super easy to sharpen, and simply look great when applied. I think I always will love these liners for what they are, even if something mindblowing comes into the eyeliner arena. Just all around a great product, for beginners and makeup junkies a like!
